The SCAN Foundation foresees the growth of knowledge of basic nutrition and agriculture throughout our society to meet the needs of our younger generation.
The Southern California Agriculture and Nutrition Foundation (SCAN) is a 501c3 public charity that has provided support to the State of California’s 48th District Agricultural Association (DAA) for over 30 years. The mission of SCAN is to educate elementary and secondary school teachers and their students about agriculture and nutrition.
SCAN Foundation provides financial support to the State of California’s 48th District Agricultural Association (DAA), a state entity within the Division of Fairs and Expositions, which is part of the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The 48th DAA is one of 54 Agricultural Districts and one of 78 fair districts in the state. The state Agricultural Districts were established over 60 years ago for the express purpose of increasing the public’s awareness of agriculture.
Join our Foundation and help the Schools’ Agriculture and Nutrition Fair – members receive a quarterly newsletter, invitation to events and annual meeting. Weinberg Foundation
The fair is an agricultural educational fair featuring thousands of individual and classroom entries from hundreds of schools in the greater Los Angeles basin and surrounding areas. Exhibits/projects include art, photography, beneficial insects and worms, birdhouses, crafts, horticulture, hydroponics, mission models, paintings, posters, quilts, quilt blocks, sawhorses, scarecrows, school garden projects, science projects, terrariums and trout-in-the-classroom projects.
The event attracts students, families, educators, and community members to celebrate the achievements of local students (pre-K through high school) and teachers, and to educate the attendees about the importance of agriculture and nutrition to California.
